ABOUT THE SHOW
DIPTYQUE takes the form of a pedagogical creation project presented on stage, made up of two distinct short pieces. It brings together second-year students in the College-level Circus Arts program for an artistic research process where experimentation, technical rigour, and personal expression intersect.
Rooted in a decidedly contemporary aesthetic, the performances are directed by professional creators from a range of artistic backgrounds. Their guidance encourages students to push their limits, refine their stage language, and explore new forms of storytelling.
With DIPTYQUE, the National Circus School creates a dialogue between training and creation, offering a unique space for the next generation of artists to develop and share their voices.
SYNOPSIS
A first imprint, a momentum, a fragment of a larger story beginning to take shape.
Stories of chorus and roots.
This short piece unfolds as an initial exploration of the world of Flowers in Boots. Conceived as a fragment, it brings to life a moving acrobatic chorus, both witness and driving force of the narrative.
At its core is the journey of a young sprout that must be protected.
The chorus, at times supportive, at times disruptive, accompanies this passage. More than an excerpt, this work is a sensitive sketch, a creative laboratory where the poetic, physical, and committed contours of the larger piece are already emerging.
Thank you to the wonderful students and coaches, and to the ENC team who made this incursion into the world of Flowers in Boots possible.
Inspired by Flowers in Boots, this creation sketches a fragile world where bodies organize, oppose, and support one another in an effort to preserve what still needs to grow.
Blending storytelling and circus, it explores the strength of the collective, transmission, and the choices we are called to make.
A first imprint, a momentum, a fragment of a larger story beginning to take shape.
“Morpheus,” through its surrealist approach, shifts our perception of reality and questions our humanity. By placing dreams and the unconscious at the forefront, the piece brings forward dimensions of the self that are often overlooked or left in the shadows.
Rather than escaping reality, it places it under tension, revealing a more fragile, instinctive, and deeply human side.
The result is a sensory experience where the body, sensation, and imagination open a space beyond reason.
